Testing WP 4.7.4

a recursive forest snap 1

When you sneak away to your favorite site, do you have any idea what happens when, say, you googled “Cal Poly” and my site cane up? Here’s a primer; and it helps us test that the update can at least, …. well…. update. Most of the info contained herein will only be useful if you find yourself on Jeopardy, or @Who wants to (whatever)”….maybe even not then, but you will learn, possibly be entertained and hey, we still have unsolved murders in SLO. Anyway before I get all deep and sad like. Data regarding your sites, the tools, the useless info, th tasteless jokes, the usual. You ordered it!

A spreadsheet I hope is readable
JavaScript
What is it? An object-oriented scripting language. Event-driven, loosely based on Java.
It is functional and imperative to the Interwebz.
Who created it?
Brendan Eich designed it for Netscape in 1995. Volunteers at mozilla.org, other sites and individuals have since expanded the language
What languages was it inspired by?
Java (duh), C, Perl,Lua, Scheme, Python, AWK too many to list.
What languages credit it for inspiration?
ActionScript (Adobe), JScript (Sun nee Oracle), CoffeeScript, Perl 6, .NET, Objective-J (that’s not a typo) QML, again too many to list.
Why is it so popular?
Netscape marketing cleverly piggy backed on the name of the right
Web language (Java, a fully functional language that runs servers, cars, street lights, toasters, you name it. >3 billion pieces of crap made in China run Java) *also*
It allowed for Dynamic Hypertext Markup….see how your FB feed and likes pop up likes and posts w/o
refreshing the page? Yeah, they invented that 20 years ago in Mountain View.
Also, without getting too technical, it runs on YOUR device, making it faster.
What about MariaDB? I know about MySQL and Google’s Big Data, but….(?)
From en.wikipedia.org “MariaDB is a community-developed fork of the MySQL relational database management system intended to remain free under the GNU GPL. Development is led by some of the original developers of MySQL, who forked it due to concerns over its acquisition by Oracle.Contributors are required to share their copyright with the MariaDB Foundation.” I paraphrased out some of the detritus. Tech Geeks it’s on GitHub.
What the heck is Hack? Keeping it simple, a scripting language ready-made-to-order for PHP 5 and Facebook…. also you cannot define local variables (if that makes no sense to you it’s cool just move on….)
Go? It’s from the wizard programmers at Google. A language and two compilers. They’re trying to keep all the good things about c/c++/Java and improve the rest. It makes BitCoin transactions faster, nuff said?
Erlang? A language you’ll likely never deal with unless you work at a server farm. Users clutter up intranets and networks, Erlang is a good janitor. Programmers can hot swap data; changing stuff without crashing Outlook. It’s made for real time systems (like when NASA tries to safely land a Mars rover, or when a million people try to watch the Game of Thrones preview at once). You don’t need to how…. that’s pretty much graduate level compsci and anything past the fundamentals are way past the scope of this clip.
Voldemort(????) a distributed data store that holds key values (IDs) from the good folks at LinkedIn for high-scalability. Yeah…. they named it after a Harry Potter character.
That’s all for now dudes and dude-ettes. *Phew* I did this whole post on an iPhone.

A tribute to “pretty good privacy” or PGP …

I found a breakdown of the design of this security algorithm still in use a quarter-century after its creation; but the designer obviously never took a course in design docs or spec; so here is my re-made rendition. (processes/functions/methods are rectangular, [most] data is parallelogram-ular (??)…all other symbols, descriptions, connections, emoji’s and hyperlinks should be intuitive. Created by Bill Feynman at self-sim-sususudios 11/16. the following is a link to the odf if you’d like to download and improve/edit/whatever….pgp-diagram pgp-diagram

Due Diligence for readers – new ad categories allowed per Google optimization suggestions ….

As you may know, we here at the Pick deny advertisers from Google’s ad-universe for a variety of reasons–

  • Ads for any product or service that is a scam or appears “scammy” (certain online universities, too-good-to-be-true and the like …)
  • Ads containing visually unappetizing imagery or text (pictures of foot fungus, or weight-loss “comparisons” or “shaming” pix = image of a grossly obese & scantily clad person, yech!)
  • Organizations that interfere with the publisher’s morals or ethics (stalker apps, Penn State ….)
  • Any product that disguises itself as a clickable portion of MY PAGE (despite my compliance and strict adherence to adequate labeling/positioning/sectioning away from legit content…)

The featured image (above) shows a snippet of data you won’t be able to read unless you are a Google client, employee or Ad-partner (like us!). In it, I’ve continued to deny online gambling ads. Gambling is by far the worst and most damaging — to self and those close — of all the addictions. Worse even, than cigarettes or alcohol. Today, I’ve allowed “downloadables” which I presume is “freemium” content, like Clash of Clans or Candy Crush. “South Park” did an episode on this, entitled “freemium” [if memory serves] if that word sounds like guttural French to you, well, it kinda is, but if it MEANS no more that something guttural in a dead language, I recommend Trey Parker & Matt Stone’s take on it to explain. I see no ethical issue [downloads are usually free, the extra content, levels, truncated wait-time is available for purchase if you are wealthy, extremely impatient or extremely gullible ….] As election 2016 approaches, being a media outlet, I’ve opted IN to “political ads” if you’ve seen my awful caricatures, listened to Bill’s rants on TapCast or read my #RNC2016 coverage & editorial, you’ll know that this writer is not a fan of Trump…but this is ‘muhricuh…dammit! I’ll defend his right to plaster “Make America Great AGAIN” all over ever single ad unit on this site if he wants…that’s free speech 101.
If you ever see an ad that offends you, is in poor tastes, looks “scammy,” or represents an organization, institution you despise, take the time to leave a comment. If we agree I’ll ban the shit out of it, promise!
to do list for this site

  • update to wp 4.6 (must backup custom php 1st)
  • posts – [with original artwork!] re- election, the economy, career choicers, investment projections, fresh ideas and the two new languages we are hip-dep in Swift and R
  • design – ongoing [wip] updates
  • learn to create a child theme + tutorial
  • more regular and higher quality podcasts, possibly including original music [stay tuned!]

Orange-u-glad-u frequent a site where the publisher goes out of his way, not only to keep content fresh, original, timely, interesting and worth that 15mins/day where you have nuthin better to do, but keeps the site secure, updated, continually upgrades design, appends how-to’s regardin’ CMS and front-end-webdev where applicable…but is also are excruciatingly anal about 3rd party content. Hopefully the political ads and “downloadables” are not too ugly — all ads are subject to ban, same with blacklisting of the organization/companies they bleed from at any time for any reason. here we go kids, below is a footer style ad that ostensibly will not offend your (or MY) delicate sensibilities.

*****update – the 1st published version of this post contained a poorly-drawn picture of a human foot with big nasty looking toes, therefore the advertiser was susequently banned, sorry if you had to see that. The biz seemed legit, but no ugliness on my aesthetically-pleasing site consarnit!!!!

Trump campaign dead on the runway….

Despite what you may have heard, now is a pretty good time to be Hillary Clinton. Yesterday, we heard hordes of retarded people in Cleveland chant “lock her up” and making jokes and vague promises to actually put her in jail. Likely very few of the chanters have ever had their freedom taken away, if they had, they would understand that jail and prison is NOT Funny and Not a joke, but this is Trump supporters, whom veteran broadcaster Phil Hendrie describes as “semi-retarted at least.” Even his retarded character [nee “producer”] Bud Dickman agrees that Trump supporters “some kind of retards.”
First he lets his painted-whore of a wife go on and write her own speech, which almost a direct-lift plaigiarization of Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 DNC.Had Trump hired even ONE media professional outside his semi-competent son & daughter (whom probably make somewhere in the range of $0.00/hr for their meager PR efforts, they would’ve helped prepare her speech and compare it against previous first-lady speeches and would’ve found the issue almost immediately. There are also simple programs that can be run by teachers & professors (software that has been refined over decades) that can check any chucnk of prose for plagiarism. Some of these programs access massive media archives, university papers, theses, dissertations, term papers, professional journals, transcripts of live tv & radio….for just a small fee his hackneyed team could’ve prevented that mess (and a lighting person couldve seen how
over-worked her face looked in that light, how many face lifts are too many? How old is she? This is his third wife…#amirite?
Anyway, later Chris Christie, a proven douchebag scheister governor from New Jersey gets up and says that “Hillary Clinton created ISIS”
IF YOU BELIEVE THAT ONE, I HAVE A BRIDGE FOR SALE IN NEW YORK AND IT AINT THE ONE IN BROOKLYN
To her credit, his younger daughter gave a nice speech.
Next “Doctor” Ben Carson gets up, starts talking about some vague conspiracy theory involving the educational system, it sounded like he made it up in his head on the spot then he compared Clinton, a heavily Jewish-sounding-named author she likes and mentions that in the intro to this mystery book, he “thanks Lucifer” — a thinly-veiled way of implying that Clinton, all Jews and all Democrats worship the Devil….then he starts talking about how it says “In God we Trust” on our money and “we” this and “love God” that which was a DIRECT LIFT OF REAGANS’S FAMOUS EVIL EMPIRE SPEECH.
AT THIS POINT I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO VOMIT ON MY DASHBOARD SO I BAILED OUT. TOO MUCH BULLSHIT FOR ONE DAY, ANYWAY, HER IS ANOTHER REASON WHY IT’S GOOD TO BE HILLARY. NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE ON THE TOP 10 LIST OF DONORS TO SUPER-PACS IN 2016. THEY ALL AGREE ON ONE THING — NOT HAVING A TRUMP PRESIDENCY — CHECK OUT HOW MUCH CASH IS AVAILABLE TO TAKE HIM DOWN SO FAR

OUCH!!! That's a lotta money folks....

Reverse pen-test or ‘Privacy Policy–under the hood’

Test
Get user info and display. This post will grab your external (real IP addy) and display it below. I do not collect this data per my privacy policy but I am trying to reverse engineer the script that yanks out this data.

IP check

As a for instance, I can store the IP and write something along the lines of

Open Whois.com
//in address bar type:
http://yourIP
print data to screen

This could wreak all sorts of havoc. This is essentially a new pen test. If it works; I’ll look for a patch. Btw; if you think the John Do test failed; think again. 192.168.0.0 is NOT your IP, but if you want to see what your LAN (your network) looks like, just open a new browser tab, type http://192.168.1.0/admin …or something very close. That’s your internal IP. The first computer connected to it got the suffix “point zero” then as other computers boot, tablets, laptops and smart phones move within the broadcast limits of the router, they get internal adds assigned by the screen you may be looking at for the first time. You should be able to see….
Jaime’s Mac 192.168.1.0
RarRarRatatooville 192.168.1.1
GayPornServer 192.168.1.2
MSOFT ERP 192.168.1.3
MSOFT Sharepoint 192.168.1.4
MyCellPhone 192.168.1.5 ….you get the idea. Oh you don’t have the password? Try “admin” and “password” ….you’d be shocked how often that gets me in. Also “guest” “guest” This info is provided so readers can protect their machines; not use them to spy on boyfriends or steal anything…period, ok? If you have sneak a peak at his cell phone? Sister you got problems already. He cheatin!

(not so) Pretty picture test ….

Now I have the capability to interface with a computer using a “pen.” I’ve always liked drawings/drawing …. the mouse can never express accurately what I’d like to draw and display on the Web. post-lengthy comparison research (+now field test) we at self-sim-studios settled on the iPad Pro. We signed up for the Adobe Creative Cloud trial and made a few scribbles. One major problem is that the device itself doesn’t “talk” to my site nearly as fast as my (aging – 2014 – HP 15 laptop) but…ok…we make the pretty pictures on the pad and mess with the WP front-end via Windows 10*
To me it makes a whole lot more object-oriented sense to draw on the screen directly. I like it so far…ill try to present a few samples, all drawn in a hurry..still in the “see if it works to adequate spec” portion. ONCE it works? The crazy, cool, hip, strange and most of all all all all ALL original artwork of Chris Welke and Bill Feynman will be available via the SoCal Pic…where we ostensibly report news; but mostly tinker with the site and share all that is cool (art, music, tech, code, ideas…) w/ you, dear reader. Ok so here’s a few sketches…

You should be able to see a marked increase in quality as I learn the UI and tools to …errrrrrmmm better express myself.
*Yes I finally gave in and allowed it to force me to upgrade – no disasters thus far yet. We also use iOS 9.3.1 (also recent). WP just upgraded too. (version “Lester Coleman” methinks?) oh ! and plz use chris.e.welke@gmail.com to get ahold of the publisher of this fine website….the webmail donated by my gracious sponsors is no longer fully-supported, so hit us on gmail if you need to…sorry it’s not quite as secure and nothing we can do about that. (Don’t use gmail to send anything you wouldn’t stand up on yout desk and say at full volume; just to be on the safe side)

New equipment = fresh content on the way ….

Did you know that my previous laptop forced the use of “sticky keys” (that’s where u hit SHIFT 5x to let the CPU KNOW THE NEXT CHARACTER IS Upper-case. You may noticed I got lazy sometimes and skipped capitalization outright to get posts done. The HP 15 is a great budget laptop but it’s made from cheapy…err..especially cheapy Chinese materials. Not that my new iPad Pro is made from much better, but it is brand spankin new….and the prevailing reason to get it was to develop my graphic art skills using what is now called a “pen”
I made this new weak prototypic site logo in just under 20 minutes using a free download from Adobe. We reverted to the basic CSS so forgive me if the site looks half-assed. This new bit of hardware will have it back up to full-ass in no time.

In all fairness to the #OCSD …..

sandra and company, i added text parodying an ad for old fox cops tv show, saying you can watch them fuk up live every morning on fox..also "eat a dick"

Doung be not gone ….much to this ol’crime reporter’s surprise, he DID hole up in the Little Saigon portion of OC. Due to the heavy coverage (this story has everything that makes an editors mouth water; max-security prison-break, foreign-nationals, forieNERS, illegal aliens, drugs (even though only weed), Kubrick-caliber violence (& sex if you believe the ESL teacher who is a solid 7….was f-ing “the hot one” as Shannon (Gary Hoffman’s hole on KFI) calls him…shining a light on a bureaucracy, society, culture and jail would just assume you fk off. The Orange Curtain is a real thing* anyway due to heavy media coverage, a white van was spotted near the Bay Area….and the concerneed citizen called the po-po. Two of the three were living out of it, were arrested w/o notable incident and since returned to the dungeon we lovingly call CJX.
as for Duong, he smelled the pinch and gave himself up (got more plans up his sleeve? maybe he had time to get blueprint tatted on…like in that show you all watched…) Lit a ciggy, waited for the Cavalry and lie prone; face down as nervous-nelly sheriff’s deputies prayed it wasnt a trap.
This reporter made predictions and was wrong; so let me clear up the scenario I gamed out and what was incorrect.

correction

  1. Doung never left the county, state or country (or continent)
  2. his buddies went NORTH; this writer predicted SOUTH
  3. all three men are in custody                                                                                                                                                                                what did I get right?
  1. distance – I predicted a 1000 mile radius from 500 n. flower. downtown SF is a solid six-hundo from the OC MAIN proper, so I call “closies enoughsies”
  2. NO ONE in OC talked to law enforcement (of their own volition; that i know of)
  3. OCSD reacted in the only way they know how following a hail Mary – arrest Vietnamese unscrupulously
  4. it is alreday unclear if/how/how much the reward $ will be dispersed
  5. coverage was big, but waning and sparse; ocsd lucked out big
  6. *unwanted attn. was drawn to CJX, OCSD, OCDA, OC Media
  7. *the story highlighted all that is wrong where local time = 2/7/1956

I’m way overdue to hash out the social, racial, cultural, financial fucked-up-ed-ness in the place I grew up in and live now….the stuff listed in the OP ..I will get to all that (Vietnam, Vietnamese Refugees, the Vietnamese People [they are commendable in every category]…WHY orange county is polarized from progressive neighbors Los Angeles and San Diego…and other learn-something-new-everyday tidbits I have for you about my sometimes home!
This may be the most poorly researched new/op-ed ever, but piling on this story is overdue…so consider that this post is a WIP and that more posts on-topic are coming down the pike …albeit at a modest speed.
From listening to KFI while awake enough to drive [for all intents & purposes] I gathered that something went wrong somewhere along the way for Duong, the towel-wrapper and “the hot one”….

somewhere along the way they jacked a cab…and the cabbie

problems arose when one of the alleged escapees took issue with “what to do about the cabbie.” -now- dear reader, I’m not a violent guy, you [hopefully] aren’t either, but let’s game out this speedbump, with the goal = “get away clean and don’t get caught”
First, carjacking is a bad idea unless it was hard-wired into the initial escape design.
ASSUME it was. –> that means IF (Cabbie sees any of their faces) THEN (Probability of escape drops to nil)
WHY NIL? THEY were on every channel, news website and paper for a week. It’s reasonable to assume that the cabbie will not only dial 911, he will say “it’s them, the three guys from the jail-break.” that’s game over. not an option…..considering.
THEREFORE we must backup and play this as we would our next chess move….or in comparative probabilistic gaming, whether or not to hit an 11 in blackjack. SAD, cold-hearted, but choice = obvious. as they say in St LOUIS; the only thing left to do with the Cabbie is “La-la” [that’s ebonics for what they call a “double-tap”] “La” kills about 90 percent of it’s victims at close-range… “-la” takes care of the outliers. SO – w/ the above assumptions, the decison to whack the cabbie isn’t really a decision – no more going all-in w/ a flush is a “decision” ..it bums me out and I’d be agreeing w/ the alleged others w/ heavy heart, but this was a no-brainer.
There are worse things than “la-la” – nutsack in mouth + blowtorch x left to die in the 909, for one.
Apparently, the escape fell apart when one of the alleged decided he didn’t want to “La-la” the cabbie. Events subsequent to this disagreement seem to be why the trio became a solo act w/ a duo headlining in The Castro…why Doung eventually turned in his dong peacefully and why the Iranian/Vietnamese duo act wasn’t a hit in SanFran…where the Denver Broncos & The Carolina Panthers are battling it out as I write. (mille pardons, I bet $4 on two punnit squares) other than that idc who wins…Peyton Manning is amazing, but still he will always sound like a cornfed retard to me.

I intend to record a new tapcast soon. We updated to WP 4.???? so ive already torn up and rewrote a great deal of php….once again…design is a wip. the main page’s header and footer(dot-php) are essentuially donesky. -tap

PS – new friend site – The Corpsman Geek, from friend/associate Kevin Gamin. Scope it out. K’ has/had a big hand in DCP, so if you enjoy or enjoyed that site; obviously his new sites subject matter is right up your … uh … alley!

Let’s play…I mean…create a prototype ’13’ deck aka Korean Poker!

If you are like me you played this addictive game at lunch, on the bus, during class…whatever you played it constantly because it’s seriously fun and a great way to pass the time. At Capo Valley, we loved this game because it was winnable even if you were dealt a shitty hand, the game encouraged a great deal of shit-talking and merriment. We’d also enhanced it with “insult rules” such as, while dealing, you throw a few of them face-up, just to piss off whoever you want to piss off. It also lended itself to so much cheating that we overlayed a rule; “If no one saw it, it wasn’t cheating.” Technically that is true in the absolute…the difference is that we encouraged cheating because it added more layers of fun, strategy, dexterity, options to win…the perfect game for college-prep band geeks who think to much and are fiercely competitive.

Common ways to cheat when you re the dealer is place a card you want on the bottom of the deck, dealing, 13 cards to each player beginning with west, you get the final card. Desirable cards include the 3 of clubs (whomever holds this card goes 1st…it is much like other games where whomever runs out 1st wins, going 1st on a good hand could end it). The ace of hearts is valued – any run ending in this card is unbeatable (thus you get to go again). Likewise, the 2 of hearts is valued for being the highest card – it is not unbeatable (a two-killer is a double-run-of-three such as 4,4,5,5,6,6) but it’s always nice to have, especially late in the game when most pairs and runs are likely to be all down. Another great way to cheat it to simply hide a card (or two, or more…) wherever you can hide it. The best place seemed to be under the left thigh or up my right sleeve. Another “layered” rule is that if you are caught cheating you forfeit the game (and winning if gambling is involved) – simply trying to look at other people’s cards is another surprisingly easy way cheat.

I won’t waste time with any more specific rules…most of you have never played it…still, the f-ed up ways to mess with the game applies to all of them (and that only scratches the surface) and you can apply the tenets and ideas in this post to YOUR preferred card game.

On topic – I’ve been brushing up on mu Java programming again so as a thought experiment I began to build a “Card” class (ADT, data-type, etc). Once I got that to work I decided to test it by creating an array (a list) of them and ordering them in the exact order they would go in 13. On higher level of this project are the following:

  1. A Deck Class
  2. A 13 Class
  3. A user-interface for the game itself

For now, I simply used my Card data-type to see if I could use a nested-for loop to populate the deck with cards as they from low to high in the game of 13. Software Engineers know that regardless of language, arrays begin at zero. In an object-oriented mode, I decided that “zero” had so little to do with cards/decks/card-games that I would use a place-holder for it. What else is not used…I mean…in actual card games? For most; the Joker(s), so in the interest of something w/in striking distance of elegant design; (in pseuodocode) 0=(string)”joker”
The following is the output from a Deck prototype, which hints at an actual 13 prototype, which is a thought rxp[eriment for the future…particularly the design of three players who can strategize against me…and..on an absurd level of abstraction…try to cheat me if the opportunity comes up and allow me to cheat the non-player-characters.

Below is the successful output from the v0 prototype of a 13-Deck
run:
whomever gets the 3 of spades goes first.
The following list will create a deck of 52 cards in ’13’ order
1. created the 3 of spades

A pic of the accident

At apprx. 1:00pm Friday, A man, for reasons unknown, crashed his Yaris headlong into a switch that. *ahem* … switches only do one thing; turn ON and OFF. This particular switch does so with respect to real-time parameters, such as the voltage of sub-switches and transistors, the voltage of its parent switch and other factors.
Ideally it turns ON if “child” switches run low on power. OFF if child-switche aggregate excess power. You can think of power delivery as a cascading system, where the MAIN (source) Power Plants(s) create energy (usually via the rotation of turbines). This region formerly had a nuclear power plant nearby – the San Onofre Nuclear Generating System (SONGS). You know them as the “boobs” Leslie Nielsen refers to in “The Naked Gun” when tells his partner that he misses his ex and that “Everywhere I look, I see something that reminds me of her”

A pic of songs
SONGS
In 2015, SONGS is offline. (the radioactive rods, which must stay cooled and entombed within the 6-foot-thick steel-reinforced concrete “boobs” until the end of time – research SONGS and half-life for more info). AN ASIDE about SONGs and The Marines Corps: By shutting down SONGs, 100s of dedicated employees, many of them combat veterans of the Iraq War II “Bush’s Revenge” &c. Many of THEM were surrounded by the Fedayim in the surged-city of Ramadi and fought their way out. Heroes all; 2-4 and 2-5 is heavily decorated for bravery and sacrifice, The Return of The Feydayim being just one example – the Battlion and subsequent regiments were formed as part of the 1st Marine Division to support The Pacific Campaign (ca. 1940). Security-gigs were handed out to combat veterans of Iraq; SONGs-SEC was a cushy job they deserved. Cushy as it was, the security of SONGS can only be carried about soldiers with combat experience. The worst thing that ever happened on their watch was a helicopter crash in the patrol area. The pilot was an amateur and the crash a mistake. There was no intent to harm SONGS when this incident occurred. Note that SONGS was never harmed in any way shape or form with these men guarding it.
San Diego Gas & Electric laid them off as large companies do to ANYONE, including this writer. They closed, sealed and entombed one “boob” then another, all the while integrating a new energy supplier, The Hoover Dam, which is at the state line of CA & AZ. SONGS is IN San Diego County, close to Camp Pendleton. Where the 1st Marines train. Watch “The Pacific” on HBO GO if you haven’t. How importing energy from 500 miles away is better business than a nearby, stable and secure station within the community it serves is a question beyond my wisdom.
The system goes offline in planned and “unplanned” ways many times. Usually when too many ACs are running –SDG&E fails to implement ERP/MRP adequately. That much is evident.
THIS outage is unprecedented. After the crash

“Gee Scoob’ what do we do now?”
circuit #0990 broke. Leaving about 500 people, including this writer, without power.
Conjecture based on available info– SDG&E initially reported that the system “failed due to a combination of factors” and the estimated restore time was 4:30pm. Later it was said to be “caused by an automobile accident” and the restore time kicked back another 30 minutes.
When the Customer-specific Action Items were not delivered on time, SDG&E kicked back the restore time to 5:00am — the following day. The assumption is that SDG&E has an SOP whereby IF the estimated restore time is unknown THEN add 12 hours to it and update the site.

I conclude from that assumption a few likely scenarios

  • SDG&E didnt’t know WHAT the problem WAS or HOW to fix it
  • The on-site techs took a boondoggle and double-fucked it due to incompetence
  • the design of C#0990 is shit
  • the system itself has poor Exception Handling
  • fault lies with management by deploying in adequately train field techs
  • The Project Manager who designed C#0990 is predominantly at fault

I’ll get into the design and practice precepts that should be used in large systems. I’ll also provide tangible proof that the circuit design is not only faulty, but ugly and vulnerable. I can’t… for the life of me …picture an engineer leaving an Enterprise System with so many customers depending on it in it’s CURRENT STATE– Which merely to was to replace the switch. So far they have not even at least added guard rails to protect it from THE EXACT SAME ACCIDENT RECURRING. …. it *sigh* the techs who stood around all damn night and just stared into the whole could’ve grabbed a shovel and gotten started on a few pylons.
0990 was down for about 25 hours. Many reported lower times, this reporter’s studio was offline for just over one FULL DAY. The restore time, I discovered via a third party (I had no internet access and was conserving a small amount of juice on my smartphone) updated to 930am. To my assumptions, SOMEONE, likely an outside consultant, possibly from a competent Engineering Firm like Deloitte — was brought in. Power returned to the system at roughly 900am. It was done so in a way that minimized the risk of further damage. The presumably complete circuit was brought back on slowly and only for about 10 seconds. Then the system was brought back online in toto. Power was restored at 930am TO THE SECOND and has now been stable for 90 minutes. Bravo to the LEGIT engineer that got 0990 back up.
As for SDG&E – FUCK YOU. Self-Similarity Studios, The SoCal Picayune and affiliated media organizations missed out on an important opportunity I’d intended to implement on 9/25/15 and spent the previous 10 hours preparing to deploy when SDGE’s circuit failed, taking my ability to complete the task away. It was time-sensitive, so attempting to deploy an Organically-Optimized Marketing strategy is dead in the water, so fuck you very much.
All my cold-stored food, along with everyone else’s and local vendor Trader Joes. The less-fortunate got to raid a dumpster overflowing with TJ’s goodies, so there was at least one blessing in that. ALL businesses dependent on 0990 hemorrhaged $. Only Stater Brothers attempted to serve the public, but it was a tense situation. I saw three different people walk out with 12-packs of brew-dizz-ogs. Looting is an incomprehensible concept to me, especially with the OCSD in constant search of crime in a nearly crime-free locale. Overnite was tense as well. Some homeowners playing cowboy shit; flashin their POS 38 specials. Most residents evacuated. This writer stayed behind to watch the street, where SOME residents crouched low behind their windows in the dark.
SCARED WHITE PEOPLE IN THE DARK WITH FIREARMS AND OPPORTUNISTIC THIEVES ROAMING IS A FRIGHTENING COMBINATION. I kept picturing a father accidentally putting a slug the back his own kid’s head in a fit of paranoia, low light conditions, heat and exhaustion. I didn’t here any shots fired. For now we pray.
Time will tell if 0990 was at least PATCHED appropriately.
Preliminary report filed by the publisher FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. WIP. Updates to this post coming ASAP.
(secondary edits 9/26, 9/27 and 10/16….C#0990 has been up since it’s completion at 930am as reported above). The aforementioned replacedment switch i still stacked in the middle of A BUSY intersection with NO guard railings or pylons. A nearby fire plug is still covered by a GLAD-Hefty-Black-Sack-style bag and is presumably offline. [updated photo of accident site forthcoming, 10/2015].
