When I first posted my initial “transcription-arrangement” (The famous Soprano Solo from 1991 by the inimitable Larry Shane posted for bugle in G and trumpet in Bb- though imitate they did…anyone with an earthworm shooter *ahem*) There was an option to “create a YouTube video” and post it there. The procedure was buggy and did not work (at least on my end) NOW Musescore added a link that claims to generate a YT vid, simply by allowing the site (which I trust) to access my channel. I haven’t posted a YT vid in a looong time so to let viewers know the channel is on life support I’m creating vids for my two most popular arrangements, “Adagio for Strings version X” and “Killing in the Name of Rhythm.” Over 3000 people have downloaded those arrangements from me and scores more thousand have heard it; especially the Rage cover (as a local band, a cover band that mainly does booze-cruises; has been using it “note-for-note” …copying the chord stacks and original structure, composed by Zach De La Rocha, but inherently changed SO MUCH by yours truly, I post it as IP. I’ll take it as a compliment that its “good enough to steal,” I just want one of the bands performing it to say, “see the sad, bespectacled man at the bar? he arranged this…yeah, that guy right there …” Is that too much to ask? Perhaps. Ok lets test it. IF YT vids exist of these two scores; I’ll be able to embedd them below. Note that these are MIDI files – they sound good on decent sound cards (your new-ish desktop/laptop & or iPad have one)…BAD on anything w/o. Old computers and Android phones are most likely to “not jive” well with MIDI. Ok so w/o further adeiu….
result–> free account allows one YT vid to be made at a time; so for now “Adagio” is posted. Still fiddling with the chords after subito piano (immediately following the dynamic climax). Think I have a wrong note in there too. I create these by singing into a tuner (shown)
so if you can help me with that one chord get at me on FB, @chris_welke or firstname.lastname@example.org; while im on the subject of how to contact the pulisher; note that chris@Tapper7.com is not currently supported so use the methods listed or leave a comment. Also open to requests. I’m considering an original arrangement of “Concierto” [de Aranjuez] that is both original, fun, complex and with a nod to the fan-versions played by the Madison Scouts and The Velvet Knights. The piece is composed by Rodrigo but perected in arrangements by Scouts leader Stewart and VK Brass Caption Head (and bass tbn. bad-ass for the LBSU Basketball Band)…Mr. [dispensa…] Sr. Greg Flores.
Note – featured image made in Adobe Sketch using an iPad Pro. The stylus is great for graphics but I’ve yet to find an adequate touch-screen music notation app to use with this new user-interface, which we truly prefer to keyboards, mice and touchpads because a “pen” is more object-oriented. Think — we’ve been writing on walls and then parchment for millenia. The “mouse” interface is younger than most of those reading this post. Which interface is more natural, more REAL…more abstract; that is; closer to how a human being would ACTUALLY feel at home using to communicate and create? If you said “pen” — you win. Btw do not be taken in by 3rd-party manufacturers claiming their “stylus works with any touchscreen” the only stylus that jives with the iOS products is the one that is sold at the Mac store. Same for the Surface; the only “pen” you can use effectively with the Surface Pro is the one sold by Microsoft. …buyer beware. So to wrap this test; let’s tack on an advert along the bottom. We’re very close to getting another check from Google so – know that your viewership/listenership/readership is going to a good cause and that we appreciate you. Not YOU…but everyone else, I’m sure you understand. We are also testing a new ad-format; if it seems invasive no worries ill wipe it-t
So in order to promote my new podcast, so far I can only give search terms on SM….which is way lame, but lots are listening to my prototype level content either organically or because they YOU are reader and have a twisted sense of what qualifies as entertainment (actually you are likely to have a higher education and IQ than 90 % of the public per my analytics analysis aggregation)
SO!force you to search for “Tapcast” on iTunes or 1 mouse click? as software engineer I go with latter. Fast, ez & SIMPLE. No work should be involved to be informed and entertained by the madhouse that is Self-Similarity Studios. TESTING…..take 1: Apple’s iTunes “Linkmaker”
Below should feature a button so you can “get some” I mean “get it on iTunes” ….
I’ll even allow the Apple branding if it works….
Here are the some of the new transcription arrangements NOT included in the cast….
Testing…”Salvation is Created” adapted from an arrangement by Greg Flores…. Salvation is Created arr. Tapper by Tapper7
*EDIT – Aerith’s theme removed from embedding due to Musescore’s limit of 5 scores, I will repost it on iTunes as “music only” and perhaps a pdf or two here.
Relm and Aerith’s Theme were composed by Nobuo Uematsu on behalf of SquareSoft for FF3 on the SNES and FFVII on the PS1, respectively. You can currently order FFVII via Steam if you can’t wait for the remake. As for FF3 (FF6 in Japan), sans a cartridge and console, I recommend snes9x provided you DID purchase the game legitimately when you were a kid. As for Hayes I love that track but f-him na…I thought that guy was cool.
Throw “4chan raids on twitch” into a search if you are bored and in need of laughter. Join up, but after my first, EPIC “Ramoning” of a creepy cosplay guy to entertain the 4channers, 9gaggers, myself and make they annoying anime guy lose his mind…I’m suspended for 24 hours. Next time I’ll record so I can resurrect “Steve from Yellowstone” I wish I’d been recording the livestream. I honestly think Jim and Op wouldve given me an atta boy. Last nights raid on The guest host of Black Ops 3 was beyond epic. Caution; cringe-humor is not for everyone. The running gag was “Bush did 9/11” simply because it made the host lose his mind. Full-blown mental breakdown on camera. Never realized we had FULL CONTROL of his livestream and that none of the donations were real.
Infotainment you won’t hear anywhere else dear reader: The SoCal Picayune.
The featured pic is an enhanced sigpic/Avatar from my self-aggrandizing Facebook page. It is by a treasured reader so I cannot reveal her name, however I await an opportunity to “tap” her back, online in-person or both, so until that time I said I would feature this in The Socal Picayine and so I am. Hence I categorized this under “Plug Love” though I’m unsure what to plug or how at present. The artist took The cropped off #NSFW message at the bottom of this t-shirt was surreptitiously moved it to the top, embedded it carefully and REPOSTED the finished work to my FB Timeline. That took punk-rock historical knowledge, meticulous graphic design and a strange affinity for this writer in order for it to happen. As a massive attention wh— I expressly approve and say thankya.
I hope a few FB friends were offended, but I choose/revise them carefully so I kinda doubt that. “We” appreciate it, “We” love it and “We” think you have a nice blend of intelligence, humor and beauty….she knows who she is.
*Breaking News* Proving my mid-to-late 90s nostalgia is NOT misplaced, SQUARE ENIX (fmrly SquareSoft) announced that it will REMAKE Final Fantasy VII —- a complete reboot! Here is the unveiling (hey cheer up about the death of Jon Snow and be happy about something you negative Nancies….)
Thus, For my next small ensemble arrangement…”Aerith’s Theme” aka “Flowers Blooming in the Church” More pics to stir your sense of teenage wonder:
On top of all that…who the fuck said the movie industry is dead? At long last the greatest story of all time (2nd, behind Cerebus) The Dark Tower, by Stephen KIng, has been optioned for a major motion picture! Woot! It sure is lame that this is all I have to get excited about the future…but ill take it. I’m all good and yes, IT’S all good.
Who “Taps them?” I Tap Them. Who knows? You KNOW!
Post dedication: Doug, Ray, Jen, Glen, Sophia, Arianna, Rich, Dominique, Tony, Michele, MaryJane and whomever I left out: Rest In Peace I remember and love all of you guys – I always will.
On a whim; we whipped up a quick and dirty transcription of Larry Shane’s epic Soprano lick from Concord’s 1991 program “Conversations in Jazz” —- used MuseScore v1.3 to create it not just for Bb trumpet but for Soprano Bugle in G for historical and nostalgic reasons. We were satisfied enough with the transcript to publish it live on the open-source software project’s official website . The file unexpectedly began trending immediately, despite it being essentially just five or six bars of only two voices IN UNISON, so an executive decision was made to arrange a longer, more fun to listen to track with at least a seven part harmony and an obscure key. “Relm’s Theme” from Final Fantasy III on the Super Nintendo was chosen, again, for nostalgic and historical reasons. We put a great deal of time into that arrangement and it is trending as I write this. Tomorrow people will listen to it in their cars on their way to work, In the park or on the Metro – or maybe with their favorite beverage. More iTunes playlists will include the work of this writer than ever before — so another executive decision was made to release “Lux Aeterna” which is VERY VERY MUCH an experimental WIP AND an innovative from-memory transcription-reboot of “SCV” the Bass Line beat The Santa Clara Vanguard plays as they “troop the line” on the track following a show. It is unknown to me whom actually composed “SCV” so default credit was given Ralph Hardimon and shoutouts to Murray Gussack, Jim Casella, (you can find them @Tapspace — total coincidence about the “Tap” thing — funny how things work out, Thanks again Skare ol’ buddy! Your gifts to my life are truly boundless) Mike “Eppy” Apodaca, Myron, Gail and every SCV Bass Line Veteran in existence.
Due to the unexpected and humbling success of taking these tracks live (listens and downloads are growing geometrically giving them potential to go viral) I dug around for my “Thumbs Up” arrangement which you can easily locate, read and listen to in 33-part harmony here on this site, but the original project file is toast, so I’ll have to rebuild it from scratch — we upgraded to version 2.0.1 today which contains tons of enhanced functionality so my arrangement of Jack Meehan’s famous on-field warm-up “F Tuning” (which is technically C tuning C-C5-Ctriad-FM-GM-CM rpt 3x …crescendo, layer and build from downbeat to cutoff + an “amen” double C’s and at least one triple E …hehheh…you know….)
Anyhoo, srsly check this shit out you guys! I’m really proud of the Relm arrangement and confidant I put enough legwork in to make it legally AND ethically ok to publish (if it were not – I WOULD NOT; per SPJ Ethics Code and applicable US Copyright Laws) In this writers legal opinion, as the track goes through CPI and if it continues to trend, I may be asked to monetize on behalf of SQUARE-ENIX and the original composer – Nobuo Uematsu. I’m happy to do that. I worship their games and his music. I seek no financial gain in this venture. I’m arranging and transcribing music because it is intellectually and artistically fulfilling + I remain an insatiable attention whore…hence “we” are quite optimistic and excited to explore the potential of MuseScore v2.0.1 tomorrow and hopefully upload v2 of “Relm” w/in the next two days. If the html they gave me works – it will embed below. If not, just go to MuseScore.com and look me up – you know what to search for – v2 will also be featured in the next Tapcast (also doing unexpectedly well on iTunes) along with a true story that will either fascinate you or convince you beyond reasonable doubt that I have officially lost my fucking mind. Much love to my regulars and visitors…now put your damn headphones on, listen to the track and get back to work, ok?….and try the veal – don’t forget to tip your waitress. Srsly lolzorz, -t
One of the most elegant, moving cover-songs/videos ever made is no longer publicly available.
David Bowie licensed the song to Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield to create a music video while aboard the International Space Station.
Hadfield recorded the audio down here on earth before he was rocketed into space, where he spent most of his time….monitoring systems. ….he knew there’d be a lot of downtime.
Scientists/Astronauts are afforded a unique opportunity on the ISS, but also conduct long-range studies in zero-gravity. Frequently there are precious few people aboard the ISS and all of them are deeply enmeshed in mission critical systems, maintenance and research. It is said to be a “beautiful prison.” “desperately lonely.” …it’s also time for valueble research and a lot of thinking. Where else can you get a look at “the big picture” than from space? It’s a perspective we can understand, but never comprehend.
Hatfield turned downtime into value using cutting edge visualization of zero-gravity, time-lapse photography of orbits around the earth at nightfall and expert music performance/recording a cover of “Space Oddity” on acoustic guitar with small sound-bed’s from Bowies’ original track (like the count down 10….9…..8…..7….6…….) with a lilting, mournful piano and a balanced drum-kit....it is heartbreakingly beautiful.
The resulting combination of technical imaging and artistic expression was posted to YouTube. Views grew geometrically-with web-users sharing the video across Facebook, twitter, Google, and other platforms. …taken down just recently, it had over 22 million views.
Not exactly “Gangnam Style” but a remarkable success in North America for reminding us of the nostalgia of our shared past, and technical-audio-visual capabilities of our present. Hadfield’s expertise in engineering and music breathed life and energy into space exploration in a creative way.
This clip has the audio, and carefully altered video to keep it from the notice of Youtube….the author interlaced most of the video with b-roll from “Gravity”***(see my footer on security, fair use and legal protection you’re covered by IF you access relevant audio/visual HERE. I do NOT recommend searching for a pirated copy it may contain malware, or you could be flagged by your ISP, clients could put their server at risk. This site is the only safe place to hear the audio and view clips of the video please give it a listen before it gets pulled… Hadfied’s cover is gorgeous but the visual-component has only about 5% of the of the actual video, Bowie’s count-down intro is removed and replaced. It has 4000 views, but these and others like it will trend and get blocked soon so please enjoy, especially if you’ve never heard it….this may be your last chance— as for the complete, historic, viral inspirational video? we may never see it again. WATCH/LISTEN BEFORE THIS VIDEO IS PULLED. CHRIS HADFIELD IS NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO PERFORM THIS SONG UNLESS BOWIE MODIFIES THE LICENSE HE GAVE TO HADFIELD. THIS COULD BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO EVER HEAR IT OR SEE VIDEO LOOSELY RELEVANT TO HIS PROJECT.
In Bowie’s original song, The beauty, isolation and concern for the safety of “Major Tom” by “Ground Control” highlighted the societal fascination and fear with space travel, the inherent beauty of NASA , and The Apollo Missions– it’s subsequent technology and massive contributions to education, machines and electronic of every kind. The microprocessor, digital technology, major progress in materials engineering and household products of all kinds
….by-products of technologies The Apollo Program required to put Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon.
By 2011, The Obama Administration retired the space exploration program indefinitely…with “hopes to restart it” at an unknown later time.
Even Nasa’s Blog expressed the sadness felt by a generation of scientists, inspired by the space program and given the case to sustain it forever by Carl Sagan.
This writer cried when that shuttle came down. Americans cannot get into space without “3rd-partyshuttle services” provided by constituent governments involved with the ISS. I thought about Carl’s hopes and dreams about our future. Carl is kind of spiritual father to me….he died in 1996. In 2011 I thought “Carl would be deeply saddened. Profoundly…” I knew the moment the last shuttle landed it would break his heart. It subsequently broke mine.
As of September 28th, 2014… Americans must “hitch a ride” from other nations in order to access space. There is still no discussion in the legislature or executive to even consider bringing it back.
Hadfield is Canadian, but was no less effected by the dawn of the 70s Space Age...when kids thought “science was cool” and if you asked any child of the 70s what he wanted to be he grew up, “I wanna be an Astronauts, just Like Neil Armstrong [or Buzz Aldrin]”
It was the first thing since that tragic day in mid-2011 to give me hope for the future of space exploration. We humans seek the unknown by nature, we learn…there is nothing left to see on the earth or the moon and robotic craft like Voyager I and II mapped most of the solar system…..but as of today there is still no official program to send humans to Mars, though it has been proven there could be an American station base ON Mars BY 2020 if the gov’t would fund it.
The administration said a shuttle progran is “too expensive” and “wasteful in a depressed economy” When in fact; sending 5-10 Americans to Mars to establish a functioning colony would show massive ROI across the American landscape. PBS artist Melody Sheep uses auto-tune to mix catchy beats with scientific/cultural media. His “case for Mars” sums it up better than my prose:
Bowie licensed “Space Oddity” to Hadfield for 1 year with options to renew. The reasons are unknown why Bowie cancelled the renewal. Perhaps it will appear as an iTunes/amazon download……perhaps he isn’t making the money he feels is deserved for his contribution to this viral project….and his timeless track that inspired it’s initiation.
As a human being though, he is harming the inspirational nature of Hadfield’s project, it’s ability and contribution to moving society away from war, terror and fear and back into innovation, creativity, exploration and peaceful solutions.
When Obama cited financial concerns” regarding space explorations, saying the “program is to be placed on hold indefinitely,” Noted Theoretical Physicist Neil Degrasse Tyson said on “Real-Time with Bill-Maher” avail: HBO/HBO-GO that “The defense department has spent $14-trillion since the Afghanistan-campaign began,” $14-trillion, if stacked in $100 bills beginning on the floor would reach from here to VENUS”” (!!!) The cost to maintain a small fleet of space shuttles, an adequate secure-base, ground control, systems maintenance and process validation, fuel etc….it could all be maintained at Vandenberg Air Force Base or Edwards Air Force Base in California…..or The Kennedy Space Center in Florida, or other staging/deployment zones w/in the US for less than 1 percent of what we spend to kill “brown people”
Afghanistan is where Lithium is mined. Lithium is needed in batteries, computers, medicine and all sorts of electronic and mechanical infrastructure. It’s a vital resource. I must also note that 90 percent of the opium is grown and harvested in and around Afghanistan. KBR has been wanting to build an oil pipeline running directly through Afghanistan—>That’s probably unrelated….KBR’s subsidiary Halliburton wouldn’t drain $1 trillion a year from taxpayers just to build a pipeline, would they? hmmmmmm…. Afghanistan has important, valuable natural resources….it would make far more sense to spend all those trillions on R&D – which would include a sustainable colony on Mars as opposed to military and military contractor work. After all…once those resources we need so bad are stripped clean, what would we do then? There are other sources of energy than Litium and oil, Likewise we have synthetic painkillers ever stronger that opiate derivatives. Getting back to research and creativity isn’t just the right thing to do, it a better business strategy.

If you’ve taken and intertest in the first three installments of “The Cal Poly San Luis Obipo News Archive” I’ll be connecting with more sources and source material you won’t find in traditional media. My intent is to document the hard news stories that have been buried. Bring the stories back to life, show responsibility and respect for the families of the victims and remind the university that they may operate above the law inside their isolated system, they may also manipulate local law enforcement…but they do not operate above ME. UC Berkeley is in deep trouble for the same thing. Again, I’m not investigating my alma mater to grow this site.
